Karen Fink BSN, RN, HNB-BC, LMT, CLL is a Holistic Care Specialist at a pediatric hospital, providing relationship-based care and complementary modalities to patients and families. She was a Healing Services Coordinator for 11 years in the Center for Spiritual Care/Office of Patient Experience at The Cleveland Clinic. She is a board certified holistic nurse. She has practiced as a nurse for 30 years and a massage therapist for 17.5 years. She is also a Reiki Master and a Certified Laughter Leader. Karen provides holistic care of the mind, body, and spirit for patients, family, staff, and the community at large. She was the creator, instructor, and program manager of The Center for Health Sciences Educational Program: Manual Therapies for Hospitalized Patient, which prepared registered nurses and massage therapists to provide holistic and safe application of manual therapies. Karen is a part-time instructor for Cuyahoga Community College Massage Therapy Program. She serves on the national level for the Federation of States Massage Therapy Boards License Renewal Committee and the Education Practice Committee for the American Holistic Nurses Association. She also served 3 terms on the State of Ohio Medical Board Massage Therapy Advisory Committee. Karen is a regional, national, and international speaker. She promotes self-care for herself and others. Karen’s motto is, “self-care is not selfish, it is self-care-ish.” She has presented a myriad of topics, including laughter therapy, self-care, stress management, mindfulness, and transcending through journey of the wounded healer (for nurses). Karen writes poetry and 4 of her poems were published in Stethos, The Cleveland Clinic Humanities Journal. The AHNA Conference Planning Committee recently published an article about service and leadership in the AHNA Beginnings Magazine. The Journal of Pain published the abstract for the poster: Measuring pain management values in clinicians: development and psychometric analysis of a new instrument.
