Myles Spar, MD, MPH directs the Integrative Medicine program at the Men's Health Foundation in Los Angeles and at the Simms-Mann Health and Wellness Center at Venice Family Clinic. He is a clinical faculty member of the UCLA and University of Arizona Schools of Medicine and for the fellowship of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Spar is Co-Chair of the American Board of Integrative Medicine, having completed a fellowship with the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine.
He has presented internationally on issues relating to bringing integrative medicine to diverse settings including underserved communities and on Integrative Men’s Health. He has been a consultant to the NBA, working with many NBA teams on Integrative Medicine issues. He co-edited Integrative Men’s Health from Oxford University Press and has written Optimal Men’s Health: Your Guide to Being Healthy in order to Win for the same publisher, to be released in January 2020.
Dr. Spar is the recipient of the Bravewell Award for Leadership in Integrative Medicine in 2013. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Dr. Spar graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University and then attended the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Tulane University and pursued a fellowship in Health Services Research at UCLA while earning a Masters in Public Health.
His work abroad and on the board of directors of Medecins sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders led to his interest in making an Integrative Medicine approach to healthcare available to all populations, based on concrete goals and needs. His commitment to this ideal led him to found and direct the non-profit, Integrative Medicine Access and to serve as former board member and current board of advisor member for the non-profit organization, Integrative Medicine for the Underserved.
