Symposium to Honor Three Integrative Healthcare Visionaries, Leaders

Dr. David Perlmutter and Rodney and Colleen Yee will be recognized

PORTLAND, Maine (February 18, 2019) — The Integrative Healthcare Symposium is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2019 Leadership and Visionary awards, which will be presented at the New York Hilton Midtown on Feb. 21 and 22 as part of the Symposium’s annual conference program.

Each year, the Symposium honors two integrative healthcare professionals whose forward-thinking contributions have advanced their fields of practice and their communities.

The Leadership Award recognizes a pioneer whose contributions have shaped integrative healthcare and paved the way for other practitioners. This year, that honor will go to David Perlmutter MD, FACN, ABIHM. Notable past recipients include Joe Pizzorno, ND, Mark Hyman, MD, Mehmet Oz, MD, and Tieraona Low Dog, MD.

The Visionary Award recognizes a thought leader who has moved the integrative healthcare community forward through their leadership and vision. That honor will be given to Rodney and Colleen Yee. Notable past recipients include Deepak Chopra, MD, Daniel Kraft, MD, Wayne Jonas, MD, and James Gordon, MD.

This year’s honorees will all play an active role in the three-day conference, which runs from Feb. 21-23, each leading an educational session on their area of expertise.

About the 2019 Honorees:

Leadership AwardDavid Perlmutter MD, FACN, ABIHM

David Perlmutter MD, FACN, ABIHM is a neurologist, lecturer, researcher, and author. He is a regular contributor to nationally syndicated TV programs including Oprah, The Today Show, 20/20, and more, and recently played a supporting role in the 2018 Netflix documentary The Magic Pill.

Dr. Perlmutter regularly shares his research in academic and peer-to-peer settings, serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and frequently lecturing at professional and academic symposia across the United States. He also serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as the Board of Directors for the American College of Nutrition, where he is also a fellow. Dr. Perlmutter has been published extensively in several peer-reviewed scientific journals, and his four New York Times bestsellers, most notably his #1 New York Times bestseller, Grain Brain, have brought his research to the masses and markedly amplified the public-health impact of his work — and with it, that of his peers.

The leadership award will be presented on Friday, Feb. 22, at 3:15 p.m., immediately after which Dr. Perlmutter will lead an educational session titled Lifestyle Choices Chart Your Brain’s Destiny. Earlier in the day, from 1:30-2:45 Dr. Perlmutter is scheduled to join four other experts in a panel discussion titled The Autoimmune Epidemic – Exploring the Controversies and Pathways Forward.

Visionary AwardRodney and Colleen Yee

Rodney Yee is a world-renowned yoga instructor who has been instrumental in introducing the practice and teaching of yoga to the United States. His 1999 appearance on Oprah brought the practice to the masses, as have his 30+ yoga DVDs and his in-person workshops around the world. His wife, Colleen Saidman Yee, is a yoga instructor, author, talk show host, and former model who was christened by the New York Times style section as “The First Lady of Yoga” in 2013. Her 2015 book Yoga for Life: A Journey to Inner Peace and Freedom (Simon & Schuster), blends yoga instruction with autobiography, and was the basis for a 12-week online course she is offering in collaboration with Yoga Journal called “Yoga for Inner Peace.”

In 2010, Rodney and Collen Yee partnered with Donna Kara and leading medical professionals to create the Urban Zen Integrative Yoga Therapist Program, which transforms hospital care worldwide by combining eastern healing techniques with western medicine. Through the program, members of the healthcare and yoga communities are trained to address symptoms of pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, constipation (PANIC) and exhaustion using five core healing modalities: yoga therapy, Reiki, essential oil therapy, nutrition, and contemplative care.

The visionary award will be presented on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 8:30 a.m. Then, from 8:45 to 10:00 a.m., Rodney and Colleen will share their experiences and insights in a conference session titled Urban Zen Integrative Therapy.

In addition to Dr. Perlmutter and Rodney and Colleen Yee, symposium attendees will have the chance to learn from and network with dozens of other thought leaders, published educators, and like-minded peers. Agenda items include dozens of valuable CME-eligible sessions as well as insight-packed non-CME sessions and symposia, an optional pre-conference program, networking events, book signings, daily movement classes, an expanded exhibit hall, and more.

Registration for the 2019 Integrative Healthcare Symposium is now open and includes the awards presentations and all Thursday, Friday, and Saturday sessions and events. Exhibit hall passes are included with the conference passes or can be purchased separately. Tickets for the all-day pre-conference sessions on Feb. 20 are sold separately and can be bundled with a full conference pass for a discounted rate.
