Valter Longo, PHD to speak at 15th edition of The Integrative Healthcare Symposium
World-renowned aging and fast-mimicking diet researcher to deliver keynote address.
PORTLAND, Maine (January 10, 2019) — Valter Longo, PhD will be the keynote speaker at the Integrative Healthcare Symposium, taking place Feb. 20-23, 2019 in New York City.
Professor Longo, an internationally recognized leader in the study of aging, has identified major genetic pathways that regulate aging and life-threatening diseases including a genetic mutation that protects men from cancer, diabetes, and cognitive decline. In the past 10 years, his laboratories have deeply researched how nutritional restrictions and fasting-mimicking diets can reduce disease risk and potentially extend lifespan in humans. This work ultimately informed his 2016 book The Longevity Diet and has earned him awards from the medical community as well as appearances in the New York Times, Time Magazine, Forbes, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, BBC, and more.
In his Integrative Healthcare Symposium keynote talk, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22, 8:30 a.m. at the New York Hilton Midtown, Longo will share his latest research including recent findings around the genetics of aging, the effects of calorie restriction on diseases, and how fasting-mimicking diets can provide the benefits of fasting without the risks.
Longo joins an esteemed community of physicians, integrative practitioners, researchers and thought leaders speaking at and attending the conference, looking to gain the very latest clinical takeaways, hear about emerging research and network with some of the biggest names in integrative health, all while earning continuing medical education (CME) credits.
Other speakers who will share findings on therapeutic diets include Functional Medicine pioneer Mark Hyman, M.D. and nutritional expert Ashley Koff, RD. Several others will explore the closely-related topic of autoimmunity, including a panel that will unpack the various hypotheses around why this epidemic exists and what solutions might be effective – ranging from a general shift away from simply treating symptoms to proactive tactics like predictive screenings and antibody tests. And Yehuda Shoenfeld MD, FRCP, MaACR, head of the world’s first Center for Autoimmune Diseases, will discuss how autoimmune conditions can be inherited by genetics, enacted by a mosaic of factors, and controlled by diet.
These speakers will join more than 40 others who will share the latest intelligence on subjects ranging from environmental toxicity to brain health and more with an audience of 1,000+ multi-disciplinary practitioners. The full conference schedule can be viewed at ihsymposium.com/conference-program.
In addition to the main educational program, attendees can choose to participate in non-CME activities like one of the pre-conferences, drop in to daily yoga and movement classes, browse new products in the exhibit hall – which will expand to a third level this year, and connect with like-minded peers at the speakers’ reception & book signing, daily lunch & learn presentations, morning and evening symposia, or the Speaker & Networking Lounge.
Conference registration is open and includes access to the keynote talk plus all other Thursday, Friday, and Saturday sessions and events. Exhibit Hall passes are free with the conference and can also be purchased separately. The pre-conferences are ticketed separately and can be bundled with a full conference pass for a discounted rate. Full details are available at ihsymposium.com/register.
