Autonomic Rehabilitation: A Novel Approach to Quantify the Biopsychosocial Model of Health

Feb 24 2023

10:45 AM - 11:45 AM EDT

Community Hub - Americas I

Chronic and persistent stress leads to what is known now as Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) dysregulation, a core feature of many chronic illnesses. ANS dysregulation is the constant overactivation of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), which we can accurately capture with the increased availability of high-fidelity wearable sensors. We have developed an approach that empowers health care professionals to become leaders in the assessment and management of ANS, and for client and patient to build self-efficacy in their own health outcomes. “Autonomic Rehabilitation: A Novel Approach to Quantify the Biopsychosocial Model of Health” explores the combination of wearable technology and holistic behavioral interventions that are based on the BPS model to address the unique drivers behind a person's dysregulation, giving clients and patients greater control over their health and wellbeing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Highlight the importance of chronic illness management through healthy behavior changes
  2. Outline how to implement a holistic treatment plan to optimize out-of-clinic care
  3. How high-fidelity wearable devices can complement practitioner treatment and interventions, and be applied in the clinical setting
