Given the incredible advances of modern medicine, it is surprising that its focus is more often on managing chronic diseases, rather than preventing or reversing them. Increasing numbers of adults find themselves with multiple diagnoses for which they may take numerous medications for. Dr. Victoria Maizes will present Integrative Medicine principles and approaches that help people prevent, reverse, or recover from common illnesses with an emphasis on diabetes. She will highlight the importance of working with our patients’ beliefs and preferences and she will present research on transformative practices which can be integrated into clinical practice including circadian medicine, vagus nerve modulators, tending the microbiome, as well as emerging practices such as psychedelic therapy and photobiomodulation.
Session Learning Objectives:
1.) Participants will be able to recommend two dietary strategies to reverse diabetes.
2.) Participants will be able to discuss the potential benefits of time-restricted eating on health.
3.) Participants will be able to communicate the importance of patients’ belief systems on longevity.
