James Gordon, MD

James S. Gordon, MD, author of Transforming Trauma: The Path to Hope and Healing, is a board certified psychiatrist and former National Institute of Mental Health researcher, a clinical professor of psychiatry and family medicine at Georgetown Medical School, and the Founder and CEO of the nonprofit Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM). Dr. Gordon headed the Special Study on Alternative Mental Health Services for President Jimmy Carter’s Commission on Mental Health, was first chair of the program advisory council to the National Institute of Health’s Office of Alternative Medicine, and chaired the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy under Presidents Bill Clinton and G.W. Bush. Most recently, Dr. Gordon testified to the U.S. Congress Helsinki Commission about war crimes against women and children in Ukraine, and helped to write legislation to address the traumatic consequences of those war crimes.
