There is an increasing need for healthcare institutions to develop high quality care with lower costs that are proven to be safe and effective with a high degree of patient satisfaction. There is also a need to provide for the care of the clinician as it can facilitate competent decision-making and improve outcomes that benefit patients, clinicians, and healthcare institutions. Western medicine is becoming more open to cultural and indigenous traditions of care. This presentation will discuss one such ancient healing method known as acupressure, embedded in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The presentation objectives will review the historical significance of acupressure within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine, describe the current research base for use of acupressure in clinical medicine, discuss the impact of acupressure on hospitalized patients and providers, and invite participants to receive a guided acupressure session designed to relieve stress and trauma.
