The biopsychosocial model of sexual wellness recognizes that sexual health is multifactorial in nature. This talk will focus on the complex interplay between physiological and psychosocial factors that influence sexual dysfunction for both men and women. By the end of this talk, clinicians will be able to appropriately evaluate a patient, understand common causes, and create actionable treatment plans to optimize sexual wellness.
This presentation will also include a unique conversation between two experts in their respective fields: Ashley Madsen with a focus in anti-aging and longevity medicine and Everest Goldstein specializing in functional psychiatry. Together, they will share what they see in clinical practice and provide insights into how they approach sexual concerns with their patients. Through this conversation, participants will also learn when to collaborate with other specialists to best support their patient’s overall health.
Furthermore, we will explore contributing causes of sexual dysfunction. These include the identification of key biomarkers, hormonal changes and decline, chronic illness, medication side effects, the influence of stress, and other environmental and biological factors. We will also discuss social factors, such as relationship dynamics, cultural attitudes, and societal norms.
Participants will learn the artful application of treatment, aiming to address the specific needs of the patient. This includes hormonal therapies, medications, and lifestyle modifications, as well as mental health support and social interventions.
In conclusion, sexual wellness is a critical vital sign of overall health, requiring an integrative approach for effective assessment and treatment. Through this presentation, participants will leave feeling confident in their ability to identify, assess, and treat sexual dysfunction in a variety of patient presentations. The biopsychosocial model provides a valuable framework for understanding the complexity of factors influencing sexual health and wellness. This is key for developing comprehensive treatment strategies tailored to the individual to ultimately achieve their desired outcome.
